Unit 29 - AS2 - Task 3
Analyse The Track
Coming up slowly, oh, sun over the hill
Daylight still a long time coming
But I know it will
Been under their spell, oh, but we're coming awake
So we'll be rude, we'll be loud
As long as it takes
This is why, this is why,
we crank the dial to the right
This is why we're biting the bullet
We know the kids are right
Different colors
We carry each other
We're just different colours
This is why we're biting the bullet
We know the kids are right
We keep cracking the music up
Driving through our towns
But they don't wanna hear
They want us to turn it down
So come on lovers, come on haters
Tonight we raise the fire
Cause when the people get to dancing
They forget about taking sides
This is why, this is why,
we crank the dial to the right
This is why we're biting the bullet
We know the kids are right
Different colors
We carry each other
We're just different colors
This is why we're biting the bullet
We know the kids are right
(For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction)
We're coming awake, out of your spell,
As long as it takes, we're coming awake
We're coming awake, out of your spell,
As long as it takes, we're coming awake
This is why, this is why,
we crank the dial to the right
This is why we're biting the bullet
We know the kids are right
This is why, this is why, we turn it up all night
This is why we're biting the bullet
We know the kids are right
Different colors
We carry each other
We're just different colors
This is why we're biting the bullet
We know the kids are right
Different colors
We carry each other

This song can be interpreted in many different ways. One interpretation is that the song is about the gay-pride movement considering the gay-pride flag has lots of different colours in it. Another interpretation is that is about different walks of life referring to each way as a different colour.
Again this song can be interpreted to follow a story or not. My interpretation of the song is that the different colours can represent different emotions. So can be thought to someone going through different emotions in one day, and the different colours can represent different emotions.
The song relies heavily on the chorus in order to make the song catchy, so there are a lot choruses. But contain 2 verses and a bridge.

Unit 29 - AS2 - Task 2
Analyse the Artist
Walk The Moon is an American 'indie pop' band from Ohio in the United States. the band consists of lead singer Nicholas Petricca, Kevin Ray, Sean Waugaman and Eli Maiman.
The artists image/style is very important when making a music video on them, it is important that you must capture the style that best suits them. Walk The Moon's style/image revolves around them being young, so they write songs and make videos that young people can relate to. So their videos can be shown to be childish. 'SPIN Magazine' described the group as a "poppy, art-rock quartet".
The style of the song that we chosen is indie pop.

Unit 29 - AS2 - Task 1
Choosing the track/gaining permission
To choose the song that we are going to do our music video on, we went on the website www.soundcloud.com. We have to choose an artist that is not signed to a record label or an artist that is not popular. We discovered the band 'Walk The Moon' which is signed to a record label however are not very popular, this way we can create an image around the band that has not already been created. However in order to do this we have to contact the artist and ask permission to do so. We did this by commenting on the song on YouTube asking if it was okay. It is important that we do this as if we use the song without asking permission it is copyright and against the law.
We chose this song as it we thought that it was not too hard to pretend we were playing it on instruments in the video. we also had a good idea around an image we could build around them.

Unit 29 - AS1 - Task 5
Understand the techniques of music videos
Elton John from Charlie Parnell on Vimeo.
To shoot this video, we had to take a lot of things under consideration such as lip syncing and the positioning of the camera. In total we filmed around 6 different shots that took a lot of takes to do as we sometimes would make mistakes when filming them. I think that the takes that i decided to include in the video was to a high standard and worked very well in relation to the rest of the video and music.
For every shot that we done, we put the camera in a different place and sometimes put it on a dolly to move the camera in relation to the actors. In my video i did not include many shots with the camera attached to the dolly, the only time i included one of these is the shot of the backing singers saying "nobody knows it". I think that this worked very well as i faded the shot into another shot so we see both shots on screen instead of just one.
We also kept the lyrics in sight so we did not forget the lyrics while lip syncing in front of the camera. This made the video more realistic as we'd be saying the actual words to the song and makes the mouth sync up with the lyrics.

I also used markers to mark on the screen significant points in the song and edit the video according to these markers. These markers helped me a lot when i was attempting to edit to the beat.
I think that I used the techniques to a high standard. The lip syncing seems to be perfectly in time and all of the effects that were added to the video, fits the feel of the song and video.

Unit 29 - AS1 - Task 4
Understand the techniques of music videos
To create this animatic music video, I drew out each shot we see in the music video of 'The Pretender' by the 'Foo Fighters'. I then put the music video on one corner of the screen and used my drawings beside the video and switched to a different drawing when there is a new shot in the video.
In order to make a music video interesting, you have to include a wide variety of shots. You also have to edit in time with the song because if the music is fast and the music video includes a lot of slow paced editing, it can look like the video does not go with the music and make the whole video look weird.
The mise-en-scene also has link with the song. In 'the Pretender' by the Foo Fighters, it shows the band playing the song in a big empty hall. Also the editing and all the techniques used in this music video, goes with the song, adding to the over feel of the music video.
